Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade Balloons

Despite it being my fourth November in good ‘ol New York, I’ve yet to make it to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. As a compromise to me jetting off to Kansas every year for the annual holiday, I finally made the trek up to 79th and Columbus to watch the epic public inflation of a few select balloons. It was a mad house, full of parents trying to bully their way in front of me with strollers, but it was worth it see Snoopy and Woodstock up close!

Chicago

As the Uglysuits once sang, “Into a world of many, windy dreams…my mind, it took me to Chicago.”

My plane landed around 8AM and with just a backpack and freshly baked loaf of bread, I boarded the “L” at Midway and journeyed to the South Loop. From there, I met Callie and we were non stop! From Garfield Park Conservatory and Millennium Park (Lurie Garden FTW!) to The Art Institute of Chicago and the 96th floor of the Hancock Tower, Saturday was a day well spent.

And of course for dinner we wolfed down an entire Giordano’s pizza!

Sunday came too soon, and I briefly walked along Lakeshore Drive before enjoying Chez Wohletz’s (aka Callie and Jerry) freshly crafted frittata and butternut squash and apple soup!

Till next time Chicago…

Lawrence Orchard Farms

Hello October! Is it really fall already? I can’t believe so much time has passed (and yet I can, fail). Fall movies are upon us, and with the thin, crisp air comes the urge to apple and pumpkin pick!

During the last weekend in September, Nadia, Rachel, and I went upstate to Lawrence Orchard Farms. We immediately developed veggie and fruit FOMO and had an amazing time picking our own apples, broccoli, peaches, kale and more!

Lunar New Year 2014

When it comes to posting photos that I take with my Canon, I’m notoriously slow. For example, I went to China for a week during the summer of 2011 and I have yet to go through all those photos or write about the trip. See?

But now with my new found fascination with Lightroom, I felt inspired to start digging through the messy archives. Today I stumbled upon a handful of photos from Lunar New Year 2014. With my Canon slung about my neck I ventured toward Hester + Mott to capture what I could. Faces always amaze me; there are stories etched there…

I remember the sidewalks were so packed that I lost cell phone service and when I finally walked to TriBeCa my phone exploded with texts of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s passing…

Alissa’s Kodak

Alissa

One thing that is true: You can never stop learning. I’m lucky to have access to Adobe Creative Suite and am teaching myself as much as I can for as long as I have this software suite. I’m pretty good with Photoshop and Illustrator and still need to hone my InDesign and Premiere skills, but my latest foray has been with Lightroom and VSCO.

I took this picture of Alissa on Governor’s Island a few week’s back and played with VSCO’s free software download of presets that emulate analog film. The above photo took after Kodak Tri-X.
