Oscar Nominated Shorts – Live Action

Processed with VSCOcam with b5 preset

I had the great pleasure of experiencing the Oscar nominated live action shorts at IFC over the weekend. While I felt that most of them were rather heavy, I did enjoy the light hardheartedness of “The Voorman Problem” starring Martin Freeman and Mr. Collins from Pride and Prejudice aka Tom Hollander. Also, the Finnish nominated short “Pitääkö Mun Kaikki Hoitaa” (“Do I Have to Take Care of Everything”) was a joyful delight as well.

On the other end of the entertainment spectrum was France’s, “Avant Que De Tout Perdre” (“Just Before Losing Everything”), which tracks a desperate woman and mother of two in nearly real time trying to escape from her abusive husband. By the end I didn’t realize I had been sitting forward in my seat the entire time and holding my breath. It was a truly powerful film and well worth seeing if you have the opportunity.

Hopefully by March 2 I can catch the Oscar nominated animated short films as well!
